Trip Indroduction

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is the most popular short trekking destination in the Annapurna region. At an altitude of just 3210 m, it has the most amazing sunrise view over the towering Himalayan ranges. The snow-capped mountains clearly visible from here are the Annapurna mountain range, Dhaulagiri, Gangapurna, Lamjung Himal, Nilgiri, Tukuche peak, Hiunchuli, Barashikar, and Manaslu range. Although the climb from mountains to another mountain is difficult, the end reward of nature being at its best is definitely worth it. The trek is at a considerable elevation but it demands some moderate physical fitness level if you want to hike without much soreness.  Trekking Ghorepani Poonhill is always a good idea for your vacation in Nepal because it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.

Trek to Ghorepani Poon Hill begins and ends in the exciting city of Pokhara. You can also tour the city before or after the trek. From Pokhara, you need to drive till Nayapul and start trekking uphill. The trail through the lush green mountain forest is very cool and refreshing. You will find many lodges and teahouses along the way since the trail is very popular among both Nepali as well as international tourists. The trail passes through wonderful villages like Ghorepani and Ghandruk inhabited by Gurungs and Magars. Further, in the higher elevation in the mountains, you will come across rhododendron forests and magnificent views of valleys, river gorges, and high mountains. During early mornings, the mass of trekkers flocks together at the viewpoint to witness the giant mountains of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range glisten, as the first ray of sun hits the high rising mountains.

Ghorepani Poon hill trekking is one of those short treks that are available all throughout the year, but during harsh winters heaps of snow and ice might obstruct your trek. Yet off-season trekking could save you some privacy to enjoy the nature, in contrary to the over-crowd during the trekking seasons. Nevertheless, the trail is beautiful with more facilities than other short treks, good services and invigorating natural scenes throughout the trek. It is surely worth the space in your visit-bucket-list among all the short treks in Nepal. Remember Himalayan Monk Travels & Treks for 7 days Ghorepani Poon hill trek and other trekking in Annapurna Region like Mardi Himal Yoga Trek, ABC Trek, Royal Trek, Dhampus Village Trek, Round Annapurna Trek, and many more.

Accommodation during the Ghorepani-Poonhill village trekking includes lodging in a hotel with basic furnished rooms and attached bathroom.  Many lodges have the modern type sitting toilets attached to the room while some lodges are more traditional with squatting type toilets, which are mostly located outside the room. Hot water supply also depends on the location of the lodge/guest house. Most of the bathrooms have solar powered running hot water. We would discourage the use of hot water boiled over the fire woods that could cause some environmental concerns.

Meals

Meals in Kathmandu and Pokhara include only breakfast. You are free to choose where to eat and what to eat in the city. Food in the city area is not much to worry about as you will find every type of cuisine, form authentic Nepali to international (continental, Italian, Tibetan, Indian, etc), around every corner of the city. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be on the basis on B/B in the city while it is covered in the package during trekking.

A traditional meal in the village is Dal-bhat, cooked rice with lentil soup, along with freshly cooked vegetables and pickles.  You can have other dishes as per the menu of the hotel. Some lodges and guest houses have a lavish menu with new dishes to try and some western type food like pizza, chips, and pasta. Every tea house serve you the refreshing Nepali milk tea, that you can alternate it with black tea, lemon tea or a more traditional type of tea made with ghee and salt.

Travel season

The trip is accessible all around the year, but it is reasonable not to travel during the monsoon season of Nepal which falls between June to August. The muddy trails might hamper your trekking and cloudy days are not enjoyable as it hides the essence of the Himalayas. Trekking to Ghorepani-Poonhill during winter is also safe as long as you have some right equipment to clear the ice paths as you trek. The winter days are sunny but cold and chilly during nights till dawn.

Spring and autumn are the best season to trek in Nepal. During these months the weather is clear with much green surrounding and clean vistas. Spring season (March-May) bring out the vibrant color of Nature. The forest and trail are lively with many types of flora and fauna enjoying the warm season after the harsh winter. Autumn (September-November) is also a cool season to travel as the environment is fresh after the showers. The scene of the Himalayan mountain range is also a crystal clear view. Trekking during this season is neither hot nor cold, making it a pleasant and relaxing journey in the countryside environment.

A Himalayan monk representative will pick you up at the Tribhuwan International airport in Kathmandu and transfer you to a hotel on B/B basis. After some refreshment in the hotel, you can visit our office to discuss our tour and trekking, the required items and equipment. We drive early from Kathmandu to Pokhara which takes about 6 hours. We have lunch in the afternoon and from Pokhara, we drive for an hour to reach Nayapul, a bridge over fresh river water and then we start the trek till Tikedhunga. The village is colorful with stone houses and surrounded by greenery and river.  You can explore the village in the evening and have a traditional meal for dinner. We stay the night at a guest house in Tikedhunga.

Day 3: Tikedhunga to Ghorepani (2775m; 4-6 hrs)

From Tikedhunga trek through the stone path that, people and animals both use to travel through villages. We cross bridges over the smaller streams, pass waterfalls and take more stone steps to Ghorepani.  You might encounter domesticated horses and mules passing by the forest trails. Ghorepani is a really a cool village at the ridge of the mountain. The village has a rustic feeling to it but more lively as you stay longer. You can have a heart-full meal after the steep uphill climb and rest in a tea house.

Day 4: Ghorepani to Ghandruk (1980m; 7-8 hrs)

After breakfast, we immediately set to the long trek route to Ghandruk via Poon Hill situated at 3210m high altitude. We walk gradually to the top as it is still dark and we need to breathe deeply as morning air gets thinner as we ascend the hilltop, but the strive to the top is worth it as we witness a breathtaking view of the sunrise on the horizon over the mountains creating excellent hues across the sky.

After breakfast back in the hotel, we descend and again ascend a steep climb through rhododendron forests, beaten tracks and plains of the mountains and finally descend again to reach Tadapani. Tadapani has some amazing panoramic view of mountains and landscape. Shortly after lunch, after descending about 3 hours through the forest trail, you reach Ghandruk, a true scenic village. You stay at the local hotel to rest after a tiring day.

Day 5: Ghandruk to Pokhara via Nayapul (3-4 hrs)
