Trip Indroduction

Tamang Heritage Trek is always a good idea for your vacation in Nepal because it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller. Tamang heritage trek is a route, although close, but different from that of Langtang valley trek. It is exclusive to the Tamang village and their culture through the rough trail providing ample picturesque views of the Himalayas and the layers of hills and mountains. This trek is special as it provides a deep experience on the Tamang ethnic group and their lifestyle in the Himalayas. The Tamang people here are said to have migrated from Tibet a long time back. They follow Tibetan Buddhism and are someway similar to Tibetans in other cultural and traditional aspects as well. Despite the nomadic lifestyle of the people, their hospitality is wonderful and you will have ample opportunities to be awestruck at every moment throughout the trek.

Trekking the Tamang Heritage Trail, we unravel the historical route that ancient Tibetans used in order to migrate across the Himalayas. The traditions of the migrants have been passed down from generation to next generation.  You can witness the ancient tradition of the nomadic period here in the Tamang village. On special occasions, locals put on a colorful dress along with a type of cap and merrily dance to the traditional music. There are also mystical monasteries that practice ancient Buddhist and Bonpo practices. From the higher vicinity of the village, you can have the whole view of the heritage with delicate houses. The villagers are skillful in crafting wood which they uniquely use it to decorate their houses. The Tamang people are extremely friendly and welcoming to any visitor and they always interact with a grateful smile etched on their face.

The landscape of the Tamang village is similar to that of Tibet with rugged mountains, rocky terrains, along with adequate grassy meadows. In the higher altitude, the mountain forest is covered by alpine vegetation and we can have an amazing view of the mountains of Langtang region like the Langtang Lirung and Ganesh Himal. The Tamang heritage trek also exposes oneself to the gifts of nature like the beautiful hills with terraced fields, wonderful hot springs, magnificent t view of snow-capped mountain ranges glistening in the sunlight, and the cool dense forest decorated with colorful rhododendron flowers and bamboo shoots.  During the spring season, various types of birds and colorful butterflies hover over the flowers and trees. The forest is abundant with wild floras and faunas. There are also wild animals such as leopards, bears, red pandas, and musk deer. The blend of nature and culture provided by Tamang heritage trekking is a unique one. Himalayan Monk Travels & Treks organizes Trekking in Langtang Region to make it your life experience.

Accomodation

You will stay in a three-star hotel in Kathmandu as per B/B, probably in Thamel, a tourist hub in Kathmandu. The rooms are clean, spacious and simple with comfortable beds, along with attached bathrooms with hot water supply. The rooms are usually double bed rooms, but it can be supplemented with single rooms with additional fees. Most of our suggested hotels are located in peaceful inner parts of Thamel, surrounded by beautiful gardens. The hotels have in-house restaurant bars as well as spas. The restaurants provide popular courses over the world and also delicious local cuisines.

Accommodation during the Tamang heritage trek includes lodging in guest houses or tea houses with basic furnished rooms and attached bathroom. Many lodges have the modern type sitting toilets attached with the room, but as we get further, the lodges get more basic with an only bed and a side table in the room and squat-type toilets, mostly common toilets, located outside the room. Hot water supply also depends on the location of the lodge/guest house. Most of the bathrooms have solar powered running hot water. We would discourage the use of hot water boiled over the fire woods that could cause some environmental concerns.

Meals

Meals, while you are in Kathmandu, include only breakfast. It depends on you whether you want to eat in the hotel or outside the hotel, all on your cost, and you choose where to eat and what to eat. Food in the city is not much to worry about as you will find every type of cuisine, form authentic Nepali to international dishes (continental, Italian, Tibetan, Indian, etc) around every corner of the city. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be on the basis of B/B in the city while it is included in the package during the trek.

A traditional meal outside Kathmandu is the favorite Dal-bhat, cooked rice with lentil soup, along with freshly cooked vegetables and pickles.  You can have other dishes as per the menu of the hotel or lodge. Some lodges and guest houses have a lavish menu with new dishes to try including some western type food like pizza, chips, and pasta. Every tea house along the trek route serve you with refreshing Nepali milk tea, that you can alternate it with black tea, lemon tea or a more traditional type of tea made with ghee and salt along with snacks.

Travel season

Tamang heritage trek is best during spring and autumn season. The spring (March-May) is a warm period of the year with blossoming flowers, and more birds and animals available to spot during the trek. This is the season to view the glorious rhododendron forest in its full bloom. Autumn (September to mid-December) is also a good season as the weather is neither hot nor cold. There is a chill in the air with clear Himalayan mountain ranges, making the trek a pleasant and astounding walk through the mountains.

It is reasonable to not trek in the Himalayas during the winter as Himalayan Mountains experience heavy snowfalls during the winter seasons. It is also not advisable to trek during summer and monsoon season, but trekking during summer could be a boon to many botanists.

There is also a monastery known as the Dukchu monastery.  We stay at a lodge in Briddim village.

We enjoy the cool ambience of the Langtang valley and trek to Syabrubesi through Wangel. We stay the night in Syabrubesi amidst the wonderful nature of the village.

Day 9: Syabrubesi to Kathmandu

We return to Nuwakot by jeep from Syabrubesi, change vehicle to drive to Kathmandu through the winding roads and lush mountains.
