Langtang Region is one of that less crowded trekking destination of Nepal that has been able to amaze the visitors with its natural charm. The region is just to the north-east of Kathmandu, only 32 kilometers from the entrance to Langtang region. The region is also under the protection of the Langtang National Park established in 1976 A.D and requires park permit to enter the 1,710 sq. km span area out of which 420 sq km is declared as a buffer zone. Trekking in Langtang region begins from Sundarijal, which can be reached by driving about 30 to 40 minutes from the center of Kathmandu. Although it is very close to the arrival destination in Kathmandu, many trekkers prefer Annapurna and Everest region, leaving this unique heritage region to enjoy in isolation.
Langtang Trek gives an opportunity to view some of the wonderful Langtang Lirung mountain peak (7246m). The forests are covered with colorful rhododendron flowers, fresh river water, and waterfalls. Trekking in the Langtang region is also a chance to spot the rare and endangered Red Panda. There is a yak cheese factory that many people like to visit and observe the process and purchase some. There is plenty of opportunities to explore the culture of the unique culture of the Langtang region. The village path is wonderfully decorated with chortens and stupas. Buddhist prayers are inscribed over rocks and welcomed by peace flags.
