Since you stay with the host family and have a meal along with them, you can get to know more about the culture and some interesting stories of the village and people. You can also find a tiny museum that displays the Gurung culture and lifestyle of the people towards the south-west of the village. Further, you can explore to find a tea garden to the west of the village and a monastery to the north. The early morning view of the sunrise from the village viewpoint is breathtaking. Accomodation
You will stay in a three-star hotel in Kathmandu as per B/B. Since this is a homestay trekking, you will stay at a local host’s home in the village. You get a separate room with bedding and simple furniture. Washroom is mostly situated outside the room, or outside the house. Water is scarce here, so we have to be very considerate in using this vital resource.
Meals
Breakfast is included in the package while you are in Kathmandu, but other meals during the day are not included. You are free to choose to eat outside or in the hotel with your choice of cuisine. Outside the city, all meals during your stay in Ghalegaun and Khudi homes are included in the cost. The meals here are limited to the traditional dal-bhat as the main course of meal, and fried corns with local tea for snacks. The food here is organic & harvested right before cooking over the fire woods.
Travel season
Trekking to Ghalegaun is favorable throughout the year between September and May. Spring and autumn seasons are best to trek through the lush green and blossoming forests with clear skies. During winter, the temperature drops to a minus in the high altitude, but you can enjoy the winter too as there is a wider view of snow-capped mountains to the north of Ghale gaun. On the other hand, trekking during the monsoon through the forest is not a good idea. The views are also obstructed by rains clouds and so is your mobility through the trail.
A Himalayan monk representative will pick you up from the Tribhuwan International airport in Kathmandu and transfer you to a hotel on B/B basis. After refreshment in the hotel, we can visit Himalayan Monk’s office to discuss the package. In the evening, we host a welcome dinner for you. Prepare for the next day and take a good rest in the hotel.
On the second day, we stay in Kathmandu city to tour all the famous locations like the Pashupatinath temple, Swayambhu stupa, Boudha Stupa, Durbar square with the help of our city guide. In the evening have dinner and prepare for travel the next day. Stay the night at the same hotel.
From Kathmandu, we drive to Khudi via Besishahar of Lamjung district. The village is surrounded by lush green hills, rhododendron forest along the Marsyangdi River. The village is inhabited by Gurung people with traditional Gurung culture and lifestyle. We can also stroll around the Buddhist monastery and the local market of Khudi in the evening. We stay the night in a Khudi and enjoy the early morning mist and birds chirping around the village.
Our trek begins towards the north-west of Khudi through the peaceful forest with waterfalls, villages, and farmlands. After the short ascent, we reach Ghalegaun, a village native to the brave Gurungs. We take rest at a home-stay facility and interact with the people. In the evening you can take a stroll around the village to witness sunset that cast beautiful shades over the Himalayan range. Have a traditional dinner with the locals and stay the night at home-stay.
The next day, early in the morning, we can get to the viewpoint to enjoy the sunrise vista in the calm atmosphere of the village. The mountains visible from here are Machapuchhare, Buddha Himal, Himchuli and many other mountain peaks. This day, we also explore the interesting and historical sites of the small village such as the temples, museum and a monastery towards Bhujung. We stay the night at the same place and get to know the lifestyle of traditional Gurungs.
We have one more chance to capture the scenic beauty during the sunrise. We can also see the livestock flocked together in the lush hill near the village. After having breakfast in the village, we descend the trail passing through the interesting villages, forests, and rivers back to Khudi, and enjoy one more night in Khudi village.
We return to Kathmandu by bus from Khudi. We travel through many lush farmlands, valleys, villages and small towns. The road is made more enjoyable by the vibrant colors of the rivers and the mountain edges. We arrive in Kathmandu and rest at the hotel. We also have a farewell dinner to celebrate the success of our trek and share memorable moments.
